Alameda de Colon square
In commemoration of Christopher Columbus
This small square surrounded by palm trees is located in the city district Triana. Only few know this calm part of downtown Las Palmas. Right nearby, there are many further sights like the Cairasco Square, the Literary Cabinet and the time-honored event hall La Cicca. The square’s center is Christopher Columbus’ bust on a 15 meters high column. The discoverer anchored in the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on his first trip to the Americas in order to get his ships mended, load provisions and trade slave-workers.
