Ireland departures at a glance

Gran Canaria departures to Ireland are collected on this page in one place: from all flights leaving Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), only those heading for an Irish airport are shown – for today and tomorrow. There is no need to scroll through the full departure board with its flights to mainland Spain, the other Canary Islands, Scandinavia, the UK and West Africa.

For every flight, the board lists the departure time, flight number, airline, destination airport and current status.

No flight to Ireland left today?

Anyone who needs to get home at short notice – after a cancellation, a missed flight or for family reasons – will find every remaining direct flight of the day in today's table above. Dublin usually has the most frequent service, so it is worth checking first, even if your final destination is elsewhere in Ireland. Whether seats are still available can only be confirmed by the airline itself.

If no direct flight is left today, the table for tomorrow shows the earliest options. The alternative is a connection via mainland Spain, for example Madrid or Barcelona, or via a UK airport.

Irish airports with direct flights

Direct flights from Gran Canaria to Ireland are operated mainly by Aer Lingus and Ryanair. Dublin is served all year round, while Cork, Shannon and Knock depend more strongly on the season: the winter schedule – the main holiday season in the Canary Islands – offers far more routes and frequencies than the summer. Which airline serves which airport on a given day is shown on the live board.

Flights to Belfast are not listed on this page. Belfast is in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, so these flights appear with the UK departures.

Flight time and time zone

A direct flight from Gran Canaria to Ireland covers between roughly 2,700 kilometres (Cork) and 2,900 kilometres (Dublin, Knock) and takes about four hours, depending on the wind. There is no time difference: the Canary Islands and Ireland use the same time all year and change their clocks on the same dates. A departure at 14:00 in Gran Canaria is also 14:00 in Dublin – useful for anyone collecting passengers at the other end.

Reading the flight status

Screens in the terminal show the status in Spanish and English. The most important terms:

Flight status terms at Gran Canaria Airport
Screen (Spanish) English What it means for you
Programado Scheduled The flight is expected to leave on time
Retrasado Delayed Note the new departure time and keep checking the screens
Embarcando Boarding Go to the gate shown straight away
Última llamada Last call The gate closes in a few minutes
Cerrado Gate closed Boarding is no longer possible
Despegado Departed The aircraft has taken off
Cancelado Cancelled Contact the airline desk or app about rebooking

Passport control and customs on the way home

Gran Canaria Airport has a single terminal, with check-in and security on the departures level. Because Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area, flights to Irish airports leave from the non-Schengen part of the terminal, and there is a passport check after security. Airlines generally recommend arriving around two hours before departure; at busy times in winter and at the start of school holidays, the queues at security and passport control can be noticeably longer.

Irish citizens can travel with a valid passport or an Irish Passport Card. Other travellers need a valid passport and, depending on their nationality, may have to complete additional exit checks.

Before shopping for the trip home, note that the Canary Islands belong to the EU but lie outside the EU VAT and excise area. On arrival in Ireland, the duty-free allowances for travel from outside the EU therefore apply, for example for tobacco and spirits. Current limits are published by Irish Revenue at revenue.ie.

Delays and cancellations: your passenger rights

EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 applies to all departures from Gran Canaria, whatever the airline. All routes to Ireland are flights within the EU of more than 1,500 kilometres. If a flight arrives at least three hours late or is cancelled at short notice, passengers may be entitled to compensation of 400 euros each – unless there are extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather, calima with poor visibility or an air traffic control strike.

Regardless of compensation, the airline must provide meals during long waits and, if an overnight stay is needed, a hotel room. Keep receipts, your boarding pass and screenshots of the flight status. This information is a general guide and not legal advice.

No. The Canary Islands and Ireland use the same time all year round and change their clocks on the same dates. The departure time shown on the board is therefore also the time in Ireland.
