UK departures at a glance
Netherlands departures at a glance
Gran Canaria departures to the Netherlands are gathered here in a single overview: of all the flights leaving Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), only those heading for Dutch airports appear – for today and for tomorrow. Anyone who needs the rest, from mainland Spain to Scandinavia and West Africa, will find it on the complete departure board.
The board gives the departure time, flight number, airline, destination airport and the current flight status for each flight.

All times in Gran Canaria local time. Live flight data — gates and times may change at short notice. As of:
All departure times are Canary Islands local time. The Netherlands is one hour ahead, so add an hour to work out the time at home. Gate and boarding details on the terminal screens and in your airline's app always take priority.
Still a flight to the Netherlands today?
Whether a flight has been cancelled, a booking has gone wrong or plans have suddenly changed, today's table above lists every direct flight to the Netherlands that has not yet left. As Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam are all within easy reach of each other by train, a flight to a different Dutch airport can be a perfectly good alternative. Only the airline can say whether there are seats left.
Once the last flight of the day has gone, tomorrow's table shows the earliest departures. Another option is to fly via Madrid or Barcelona, both of which have frequent connections to Amsterdam.
Dutch airports with direct flights from Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a firm favourite with Dutch winter-sun travellers, and four airports in the Netherlands have direct links. Frequencies are highest in the winter schedule, from late October to late March.
| Airport | Code | Main airlines |
|---|---|---|
| Amsterdam Schiphol | AMS | Transavia, TUI fly, easyJet (seasonal) |
| Eindhoven | EIN | Transavia, TUI fly |
| Rotterdam The Hague | RTM | Transavia, TUI fly |
| Groningen Eelde | GRQ | TUI fly |
Which airline flies which route on a given day is shown on the live board. Flights to Belgium – Brussels, Charleroi and Ostend-Bruges – are not included on this page.
Flight time and the one-hour time difference
The distance from Gran Canaria to the Dutch airports is around 3,100 to 3,300 kilometres, which works out at roughly four and a quarter to four and a half hours in the air, depending on the wind.
Unlike the UK and Ireland, the Netherlands does not share the Canary Islands' clock: it is one hour ahead all year round, as both change to summer and winter time on the same dates. A flight leaving Gran Canaria at 13:00 therefore leaves at 14:00 Dutch time – worth remembering when telling someone when to collect you at Schiphol.
Understanding the departure screens
Flight information at the airport is shown in Spanish and English. A quick guide to the status messages:
| Spanish | English | Meaning for you |
|---|---|---|
| Programado | Scheduled | Departure is planned on time |
| Retrasado | Delayed | Watch for the revised departure time |
| Embarcando | Boarding | Make your way to the gate |
| Última llamada | Last call | The gate is closing shortly |
| Cerrado | Gate closed | No more passengers can board |
| Despegado | Departed | The flight has taken off |
| Cancelado | Cancelled | Contact the airline about rebooking |
ID checks and customs on the return trip
Gran Canaria Airport has a single terminal, with check-in and security on the departures level. Spain and the Netherlands are both in the Schengen Area, so there is no passport control on flights to the Netherlands. You still need valid photo ID, as airlines check it at the gate: Dutch and other EU citizens can travel with a national identity card or a passport. Allow around two hours before departure; security queues are noticeably longer at weekends in the winter season and at the start of school holidays.
A point that often surprises travellers: although the Canary Islands are part of the EU, they lie outside the EU VAT and excise area. Arriving in the Netherlands, the allowances for goods from outside the EU therefore apply, for example for tobacco and alcohol. Dutch Customs publishes the current limits at douane.nl.
Delays and cancellations: passenger rights
EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 covers every departure from Gran Canaria, regardless of the airline. Flights to the Netherlands are journeys within the EU of more than 1,500 kilometres. Arriving three hours or more late, or a cancellation at short notice, can mean compensation of 400 euros per passenger – except where extraordinary circumstances apply, such as severe weather, calima reducing visibility or an air traffic control strike.
Whatever the cause, the airline has to provide meals and refreshments during long waits and, if an overnight stay becomes necessary, a hotel and transport to it. Keep your boarding pass, receipts and a screenshot of the status display. This overview is for general information and does not replace legal advice.

Look at today's table on the live board above: it lists every direct flight to Amsterdam and the other Dutch airports that has not yet departed. If the last one has gone, tomorrow's table shows the next options. Seat availability can only be checked with the airline.
Around four and a quarter to four and a half hours, depending on the destination airport and the wind. The distance is roughly 3,100 to 3,300 kilometres.
The Netherlands is one hour ahead of Gran Canaria all year round. The times on the departure board are local Canary Islands time, so add one hour for Dutch time.
Not necessarily. Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so there is no passport control. Dutch and other EU citizens can use a valid national identity card instead, which the airline checks before boarding.
Under EU Regulation 261/2004, a delay of at least three hours on arrival or a short-notice cancellation can entitle each passenger to 400 euros. Airlines do not have to pay in extraordinary circumstances, for example severe weather or an air traffic control strike, but they must still provide meals and, if needed, a hotel.
No. This board only shows flights to airports in the Netherlands. Flights from Gran Canaria to Brussels, Charleroi and Ostend-Bruges in Belgium are not included.
