Japanese Food in “Samurai” – exotic cuisine from the assembly line
The adventure restaurant in the borrow of Santa Catalina
The restaurant Samurai is located within the district of Santa Catalina, only a few minutes from Parque Santa Catalina and the Canteras beach. Once you enter the place, you know right away that it is one of the most extraordinary restaurants of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In Samurai, one has of course the option of putting together one’s food by choosing from the extensive menu. However, our 4 people 24.com-team highly recommends the All-Inclusive menu, which is priced at 12.80 Euros around dinnertime and 10.80 Euros around lunchtime. It is not a bargain, but it is reasonable considering the price-performance ratio.
The center of the restaurant is a 30 meter long assembly line on which the delicious and exotic dishes and dessert pass by the tables. This way, one gets to see the whole range of the culinary repertoire of Samurai and gets to choose freely but needs to be quickly. One has to choose within seconds and the variety of individual “Mini-dishes” makes it difficult to try every single one of them. Craved and anticipated by the visitors are for example the baked shrimps or the sweet and sour chicken.
Since the best dishes are obviously also the most wanted, one should choose a table strategically. The seats at the start of the assembly line are clearly the most desired, since no dishes have been removed by the concurrence (the other visitors) yet. Japanese eating at Samurai does not only involve the concentration on the assembly line, but also the entertainment that is offered at the same time. Too concentrated on the conversations, one can loose one or the other delicious food to the pack of hungry wolves from the other tables. Too concentrated on the passing deliciousness, the conversation suffers.
Once one gets used to the creative food delivery, the meals at Samurai become a true adventure. The Japanese food is the center of attention, but the conversations about and around the assembly line that are characteristic of this restaurant are its special feature.
“What will the next dish passing by be like? When is my backed chicken coming back? Now, they predominantly serve desserts. The couple at the left end takes all the delicious foods and we end up getting none. Next time, we will choose the table at the beginning of the assembly line right away…”

There is also the opportunity to dine in one of the three locked cabins – sitting on cushions and equipped with Japanese slippers. It’s another opportunity to make the “adventure meal” at Samurai more authentic and Japanese. To digest the good food, we recommend the liquor aguardiente de oruja after dinner. This liquor is made from the residue collected during the pressing of grapes when wine is produced. The Italian “Grappa” whose recognition is bigger than its taste, belongs to the same group of liquors. The aguardiente de oruja on the other hand, is greater in taste and softer on the senses as its Italian college. The Las Palmas24.com team can approve this.
