The surf beach spot La Cicer is located on the beach section Playa de las Canteras next to the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, where the sand slowly gets darker and darker, until it turns completely black at the cliffs directly next to the concert house Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Surf and Beach: La Cicer beach spot offers waves the whole year through. In the summer months the waves are slightly smaller which makes for ideal conditions for beginners. In the months from September to December it can get a bit rougher and the waves on this excellent beachbreak can reach heights up to as many as 4 metres and even more.
In contrast to the surf spot La Isleta which is located in the district La Isleta, the sandy underground in El Confital minimises the risk of injury. Its on of the finest surfin beach of gran canaria. Only 50 metres to the right of the hut of the Cruz Roja ( = Red Cross) there are some treacherous rocks whose black surface can be seen only when the tide is low – caution!
Beach Spot: The waves break on “La Cicer” to the left as well as to the right but in any case steep and sometimes very long. If the swell gran canaria comes from the Northeast or the Northwest, this is good news for all Cicer-surfers. At times, it can get crowded on weekends and even on workdays after work, but troubles with the “locals” are the exception – caused by bleating and surfing black sheep which are to be found all around the world, unfortunately.
As the surfers on the surf and beach La Cicer are quite international due to Erasmus surfers from all over Europe and the many beginners which come here, the atmosphere in the water is generally casual and relaxed. Locals and true masters switch to other more dangerous and more challenging beaches.
Insiders’ Tip on the Beach Spot La Cicer
Since Spaniards and Erasmus partygoers are generally not known as early birds, you sometimes have the whole surf spot La Cicer all to yourself, from 8.00 – 10.00 in the morning.
