The Charleston – live music in the Old Town
Concerts Tuesdays through Saturdays
>Charleston is an insider local in its truest sense, because most tourists pass right by. This does not have anything to do with the quality of the venue, but more so because it is only known by people who stay longer in Las Palmas. Here live music is being performed in half-light almost every day of the week. This venue is one of the most cosiest of all the bars in Las Palmas and worth while for fans of live music.
The „Charleston“ opens its doors already at 10am and offers breakfast during which one can read today’s Spanish newspapers. It is an ideal place to meet up with friends, enjoy quality time with one’s spouse or just enjoy the great live music in the evenings. Tuesdays through Saturdays at 9pm various concerts take place. Not only are different styles of music performed, like jazz, blues, rock, pop and tango, but furthermore theatre plays, poetry and comedy events take place in this venue.
In the evenings the atmosphere is a cosy and comfortable one. One can look at the interesting decoration of the “Charleston”. Posters of Humphrey Bogart, Bob Marley and various other movie and music stars from the past emanate timelessness. When one looks at these pictures of people who achieved popularity and enjoyed their lives, one starts to nod one’s head while drinking a glass of ice-cold beer.
One has to wonder if one nods the head to the beat of the great music or if one agrees with the bar’s philosophy that we should enjoy every day that is given to us on this earth. Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra and Marlene Dietrich all passed away, but their posters in the “Charleston” seem to remind us of our mortality - enough now and lets go back to the present to enjoy wonderful and positive live music in this one of a kind bar, which is the secret core of the city’s night life.
