Enjoyable drive through the culture, historie and a unique canyon landscape of Gran Canaria: Our guided tour starts downhill from the peak of the Pico de las Nieves and leads through one of the longest and most historical canyons of Gran Canaria, the Barranco de Guayadeque and ends in the beautiful historical city Agüimes in the southeast of the Island. Suitable for each experience level, for ambitious cyclists are more variants possible.

This MTB tour strats after the comfortable ascension with the bus to the panorama basis of the Pico de las Nieves, right next to the highest point of the Island in a height of 1949 meters. During the mountainbikes get out of the bus, you can enjoy the widest view of the island: you can not just see the giant volcanic cone of the Teide on Tenerife on the horizon, with little windand some luck you can discover right nexxt to the starting point real "canarios", chirping canaries between rocks and plants.

The first meters go moderate downhill on a partly rough asphalt road. This first section will help to accustom to the mountainbike and its brakes.

On a inconspicuous place the tour brings us on a small paved track. Away from the street and the little cars you can feel beeing free like wildwest manner. The almost even a bit stony route is getting steeper very fast into the valley of Guayadeque where the only hard part of the rout will start: slightly lagrer rocks on the way let even experienced cyclists get off their bikes to manage a small section safer by foot.

In the upper section of the Barranco de Guayadeque you will feel like far away from the civilisation, surrounded of wildest nature. In january you can marvel at the almond blossom for some weeks and everywhere it smells gorgeeous of known and unknown plants. These scents repay the participants for the at first cold but then more friendly route through the canyon warmed of the morning sun.

The route goes changing from easy to a bit more difficult passages on unpaved roads and tracks past to the mountain village ant the viewpoint "Montana Las Tierras" with the famous cave restaurant Tagoror and a cave church. From there it is getting faster almost by itself on empty paved roads through the deep Barranco dowm to Agüimes.

The amazing view over huge rock formations an through deep canyons fascinates in combination with the unique fauna of the Barranco de Guyadeque. Because of the micro climate in this valley there are many endemic plants to see. Also therefore and because of the numerous natural caves this canyon was already inhabited by the extinct natives of the Canaries.

Short before the exit of the valley you will find the museum of nature "Centro de Guayadeque" builded into a cave, which can be visited. Here you can find old canary culture and way of life declared, as a highlight a real mummy can be marveled.

Finally we leave the valley and finish our tour after 2 more kilometers in the center of Agüimes, where, on the plaza in front of the church in a small cafe or in a rustical restaurant the excursion will find a cosy end. From here we will bring the participants together with their bikes in the bus back to Las Palmas or to the south of the island.

Also real Gran Canaria experts arde enthusiasted by this tour, particularly because this rout can not be done in this combination by car, bus or feet. You can see completely new and unknown sides of the island in a short time. Moreover the participants can have breaks whenever they want: at viewpoints in the valley or in the famous cave restaurant Tagoror, such as 20 minutes downhill in some rustic cave restaurants. Especially recommended is the final rest in the center of Agüimes at the plaza with small cafes and restaurants without much tourism.
